Getting to photograph both the maternity and newborn seasons for the same family is always special—especially when it’s people you know and admire. I’ve known Halleigh and Brett for a while, and if her name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen (and tasted) her work—she’s the talent behind Tatko Cookie Co. and the one responsible for those amazing cookies at my Christmas minis.
Maternity at the Paddle Launch
We planned their maternity session at the Nocatee Paddle Launch, one of my favorite spots nearby. The soft light filtered through the trees, and the calm backdrop gave the whole evening an easy, peaceful feel. Halleigh wore a flowy blue tiered dress that moved beautifully in the breeze, and Brett had her laughing the whole time. Those natural, in-between moments are always the ones I end up loving most.
Their spaniel, Bella, came along too—she’s definitely part of the family and didn’t miss a beat in front of the camera. I always encourage bringing dogs to sessions. It makes everything more personal, especially when a family is about to grow.
One quiet but meaningful detail from their session: a tiny white sweater with “Casey” stitched on the front. That little name reveal made it all feel real—like they were ready and waiting for him.
Welcoming Baby Casey
A few weeks later, I met them at home to document those early days as a family of four. These sessions are never rushed. We go at baby’s pace and focus on connection over posing.
Casey was sleepy and calm. Brett held him close and kissed his forehead in that quiet, instinctive way new dads do. Bella stayed close, already settling into her new role as big sister.
One of my favorite images from that session is all four of them together on the couch—Halleigh in her floral dress holding Casey, Brett beside them, and Bella curled up nearby. It’s simple and true to who they are.
These Days Go Fast
The newborn days pass quickly. As a mom, I know how much can fade into a blur. That’s why I love photographing both maternity and newborn sessions—they tell a fuller story together, from waiting to arrival.
To Halleigh, Brett, Casey, and Bella—thank you for letting me document this season. It was a joy to photograph your family.
